Wallace State’s Cross Country Teams Recognized by Hanceville City Council
HANCEVILLE, Ala.–Wallace State’s 2018-19 Cross Country teams were recognized by Hanceville City Council Tuesday night with a resolution congratulating both men’s and women’s teams on their recent Alabama Community College Conference Championships.
Members of the team accompanied Dr. Ryan Smith and Coaches Stan Narewski and Tony Crider to the meeting. The team presented Mayor Kenneth Nail a signed photo in appreciation for the work the city did to help the college clear trails on campus for the state competition.
“We appreciate the close relationship the college has with our community,” Dr. Smith said. Mayor Nail added that the City was glad to be able to help by investing manpower. “Even if we can’t help by contributing money to a project, we can help in other ways,” he said.
The Wallace State men’s team had the top four finishers and five of the top eight finishers at the ACCC meet, and the Wallace State women’s team had six runners finish in the top eight at the ACCC meet.
Wallace State runner Tanner King was named ACCC Runner of the Year. Wallace State Head Coach Stan Narewski was named Coach of the Year, his 29th Alabama Community College Conference and Region 22 Coach of the Year Award for Cross Country and Track and Field.
Narewski was previously named NCAA Division I National Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1984, inducted into the University of West Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, into the NJCAA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2008, and into the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame 2018.
This was Wallace State’s second cross country season since the sport resumed.
