J.J. Adams settling in as new Wallace State’s women’s golf coach
HANCEVILLE, ALA. — J.J. Adams is settling in as Wallace State’s head women’s golf coach.
Adams inherited the reins of the program in August and led Wallace State to a pair of tournament championships throughout the fall semester season, winning both the Wallace State Invitational and the Jefferson State Invitational.
Adams is a Wallace State golf alum, playing for the Lions from 1988-1990 as part of coach Dan York’s second team in the program’s rich history.
“I love being back. I knew I would enjoy it, but I’m truly having the time of my life. It’s fun to work with younger golfers and see them improve and grow, not only as athletes, but as individuals. It’s a rewarding feeling,” said Adams, who also golfed at UNA upon transferring from Wallace State.
Adams owned Pro Golf of Cullman for nearly 20 years before transitioning to assist both Wallace State golf teams last season.
Wallace State’s women’s golf team has succeeded since being established in January 2015. The Lady Lions have won consecutive Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) championships and finished among the top 13 teams in the nation the past three spring seasons.
Adams expects the women’s program to grow even stronger. The Lady Lions have sophomore Michaela Bryan back this season after she won the ACCC individual low medalist title as a freshman. Maci Yeager earned an All-Tournament nod in the team’s fall finale, and freshmen Paige Lemm, Claire Newby and Abbi Grimes are also on board.
“We are continuing to get better and better. We are recruiting great golfers and people and you’ll see this program improve even more as a result,” Adams said. “I have aspirations of getting this program into the top five in the country one day. I can definitely see us there.”
Meanwhile, York is in the midst of his 32nd season at Wallace State, leading the men’s team.
