Entries sought for 2019 Community Art Showcase
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College is seeking entries for its annual Community Art Showcase to be held April 8-27, at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.
“E-Motivations: Emoticons, Emojis & Selfie Expressions” is the theme of the 2019 event. Artists are invited to create portrait artworks which showcase unique individual emotions, identities and personalities.
“More specifically, this year’s participants are encouraged to create portraits which utilize and are inspired by contemporary digital language and its symbols,” said Adrian Scott, head of the Wallace State Art and Visual Communications program. “We hope to inspire and showcase artworks which will become fun, imaginative and lasting reminders of the many creative ways in which we can express ourselves.”
Artworks which do not relate to the theme of “E-Motivations” are still welcome for exhibition in the community showcase.
There are seven media categories and five age divisions for the showcase. Media categories include drawing, painting, photography, ceramic/sculpture, computer art, multimedia and crafts. Age divisions include K-second grade, third-fifth grade, sixth-eighth grade, ninth-12th grade and adult.
Eligible artists are current Wallace State students, employees, public and home school-aged children and adults in the Wallace State service area. Each artist may individually submit a total of two pieces from any of the seven categories. Only original works of art will be accepted.
All entries should be ready and suitable for display when submitted. Drawings, paintings, photographs and graphic prints must be either mounted, matted and/or framed to be accepted and properly hung for exhibition. Clay or ceramic artworks must be kiln-fired. Sculptures should be mounted on cardboard or wooden bases for presentation.
Entries should be received by Friday, March 22 at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Any schools or entities wishing to make other submission arrangements or for more information contact Adrian Scott at 256.352.8145 or adrian.scott@wallacestate.edu. Applications may be found via the Art/Visual Communications program page or the Fine and Performing Arts page on the Wallace State website.
An Exhibition Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Exhibition participants and the public are invited to attend.
