Wallace State Relay For Life team raises more than $10,000
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Wallace State Community College Relay For Life team generated more than $10,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Cullman County during the 2019 fundraising season. Current standings for the Cullman County event have the Wallace State team in second place for top fundraising teams.
“The bulk of those funds came from the March Madness Golf Tournament we held on March 30,” said Gail Crutchfield, sponsor of the Wallace State Relay For Life team. More than $6,700 was generated by the first-time fundraiser for the team. The remainder of the funds were raised through fundraisers hosted by the team, a donation from the Wallace State women’s basketball team who collected funds during 2019 Homecoming events, and donations collected by individual team members
“I would like to thank everyone who supported our team and team members, whether it was a sponsor for the golf tournament, those who participated in and attended our Masked Singer event, anyone who made a purchase during a bake sale, and anyone who donated to the cause,” Crutchfield said. “A special thanks to Debra Young and Sam Jones, who organized the tournament.”
“Our Wallace State family has been touched by cancer in so many ways,” Crutchfield added. “We’ve lost beloved faculty this year; we’ve watched colleagues and/or their families battle the disease; we’ve been able to cheer when tests have come back cancer-free. Our team members volunteer to raise funds because we want to hear more cheers, or better yet, help someone prevent the disease or catch it early enough that they won’t have to go through treatments.”
The Wallace State Relay For Life team is open to all students, faculty and staff. Please contact Gail Crutchfield at 256.352.8064 or gail.crutchfield@wallacestate.edu for more information.
