HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College’s Diesel Technology program and Kubota Tractor Corporation launched a new partnership on Thursday.

As a Kubota Tech partner, Wallace State is the first college in the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) and the third in the United States to offer Kubota technician certifications.

“Wallace State is ready for this. They want to do well for the Kubota partners, and I think this will be a great partnership. Over time, you’ll see this partnership pay huge dividends for everyone involved. It a win for all partners,” said Branden Brown of Kubota Tractor Corporation, who visited campus from the company’s headquarters in Grapevine, Texas.

One of Kubota Tech’s primary goals has been to incorporate its curriculum into technical programs in the United States. Also in partnership with the National Coalition Certification Center (NC3), Wallace State quickly emerged as one of the leading candidates to fulfill the mission in this region of the country.

Wallace State Diesel Technology instructor Jeremy Smith is a NC3 Master Trainer and in charge of Kubota Tech training on campus.

“We are very proud to be part of the Kubota team and NC3 team as well,” Smith said.

Added Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics: “I’m pleased we are here for the announcement of this Kubota partnership. Partnerships like this in Alabama and the Southeastern region and across the nation are game changers in the way we keep the talent pipeline developed for the communities we serve. We are especially pleased to have been chosen by Kubota for this important partnership.”

The Kubota Tech program equips aspiring technicians with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully pursue a career in the off-road diesel equipment industry. The certification program trains its students to inspect, diagnose and repair Kubota equipment with reliability and customer satisfaction. Kubota Tech certifications are offered in pre-delivery inspection (PDI), preventive maintenance inspection (PMI), electrical I and II, hydraulics, engine, power transmission and power train brakes, steering and suspension.

“Wallace State tries to find someone or some industry that has a need and we try to fulfil it,” said Jimmy Hodges, Wallace State’s Dean of Applied Technologies.

Through NC3, Wallace State has also partnered with Snap-On, Greenlee, Lincoln Electric, Starrett and FESTO and produced multiple NC3 Master Trainers on campus.

John Lee presented on the behalf of NC3.

“NC3 takes corporations like Kubota and top notch educational institutions like Wallace State and puts curriculum together to ensure industry receives the type of technician you need in your dealership today,” said Lee, who’s also an industry training coordinator for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology. “Wallace State is very committed to this program and very committed to the industry. Wallace State is a golden ticket and will provide you with a great product.”

Through the partnership, Kubota dealers will have the opportunity to send their employees to Wallace State to earn training under Smith’s tutelage.

“It’s a momentous day for Kubota in the Southeast. Partnerships like these have been an ongoing discussion at Kubota for years. We are excited about this opportunity with NC3 and Wallace State,” said John Sergeant, Southeast Division Manager of Kubota.

Guests and Kubota dealers in attendance also had the chance to tour Wallace State’s Diesel Technology Department.
