Wallace State Medical Lab Assistant program accepting applications for Spring 2020
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Medical Laboratory Technology program at Wallace State Community College is currently accepting applications for its Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate program, which can be completed in two semesters.
Applications will be accepted through Jan. 3, 2020. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and space is limited to 12. They must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale on all previous high school and college work attempted and submit ACCUPLACER scores for reading, writing and math or an ACT composite score.
Those accepted into the program will first complete two classes designed for entry-level students who are ready to begin a career in laboratory technology. In Spring 2020, students will take MLT 131 (Laboratory Techniques I) and in Summer 2020, the students will take MLT 132 (Laboratory Techniques II) and MLT 286 (MLA Clinical Rotation).
MLAs perform waived laboratory tests that help detect, diagnose and study diseases. The program will teach students core laboratory skills primarily required for testing in physician’s office labs, urgent care facilities and other decentralized testing sites.

Classes for Spring 2020 begin Jan. 6. Priority registration begins Nov. 19, and a special week for Rapid Enrollment will be Dec. 2-6.
