HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Salon and Spa Management student Tesia Humphrey has been elected as the state SkillsUSA college/postsecondary President for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Stephen Hollis, a Wallace State Machine Tool Technology student, has been elected Parliamentarian for the same term.

Humphrey, 31, is currently in her second semester in Wallace State’s Salon and Spa Management program.

“I’m excited to be elected president. It’s such a great honor. I’m looking forward to representing Alabama, Wallace State and our Salon and Spa Management program through my position with SkillsUSA,” said Humphrey, a Hayden native.

Humphrey is enrolled at Wallace State for a new career path after previously completing her general studies classes in Hanceville. She went on to graduate with a political science degree from Athens State and worked professionally before deciding to return to Wallace State.

Humphrey’s goal is to be a cosmetologist.

“I have a different perspective than many students here. I hope I can be a good leader and help people understand all of the skills needed to succeed in the workplace,” Humphrey said.

Wallace State maintains a strong presence on the state and national SkillsUSA levels, producing champions and leaders on an annual basis. The college had three students win gold medals at the national competition in June and is two years removed from having student Maci Key serve as a national SkillsUSA officer.
