Wallace State’s cross country teams seeking consecutive ACCC titles on Friday
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s cross country teams will look to defend their Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) titles on Friday morning at the University of Montevallo.
The men’s 8K begins at 9 a.m. and the women’s 5K begins at 10 a.m.
“All of our runners have a good grasp of things and a good plan. We’re mentally prepared nasty conditions or a sprinkle. We’re as healthy as we’ve been all season and excited to run on Friday,” said Wallace State coach Stan Narewski.
Wallace State swept the ACCC meet last season at home. The men’s team had the top four finishers and five of the top eight, propelling the Lions to a sixth conference title.
The Lady Lions had six runners place among the top eight, lifting them to a third ACCC championship.
Wallace State has had multiple runners shine on both squads this season.
Freshman Jonathan Jenkins, a Beauregard High grad, has recorded Wallace State’s top finish in a pair of meets this fall and finished second in two others.
“Jonathan Jenkins has been as steady as a rock. He’s as dependable as they come during meets,” Narewski said.
Jaden Vance, from Moody, has finished as the Lions’ top runner in two meets as well.
Sophomore Hamza Abusammour has consistently been among Wallace State’s top finishers, as has Taylor Nails.
Abusammour was among Wallace State’s top finishers at the conference meet last season in addition to Tanner King, the 2018 ACCC Runner of the Year. King has battled injuries this season, but is prepared to run on Friday.
On the women’s side, sophomore Tatiana Padgett has placed first for Wallace State in two meets and runner-up among the Lions’ competitors in two others. Padgett finished third overall last season in the conference meet.
Logan Ayers, a freshman from St. Bernard, has also registered the top finish for Wallace State in two meets this season.
Hannah Huntley, Ashleigh White and Breanna Smith have also been among Wallace State’s top finishers.
