HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Wallace State Dance program’s Allegro Dance Theatre will present “The Nutcracker: Clara’s Dream” on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23 and 23 at 7 p.m. in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre. Directed by Dance Instructor Brooke Desnoës, the production is “Nutcracker in a Nutshell,” an abbreviated version of the classic holiday ballet.

“This will be our first performance as the Allegro Dance Theatre and we’re very excited to get to perform for our family, friends and neighbors,” said Desnoës. “Along with our core group of student dancers, we have more than 50 community cast members from surrounding areas in the production.”

The story of the ballet follows young Clara through the Kingdom of Sweets after she receives a nutcracker from her uncle. Along with ballet, the audience will enjoy dance styles from Russia, Spain and even some modern twists, or tumbles, as the case may be.

Admission to “The Nutcracker Clara’s Dream” is $10. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Visit www.wallacestate.edu/nutcracker to purchase tickets or for more information.

As a special treat, the Dance program will also offer a special event prior to the Saturday performance on Nov. 23. Clara’s Tea Party will be held at 4 p.m. at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Guests will get to meet their favorite characters, participate in arts and crafts, participate in a choreography from the ballet and enjoy an elegantly seated tea and tasty sweets.

“Bring your camera, as you will have opportunities to have your photo made with The Nutcracker characters,” Desnoës said.

Tickets for Clara’s Tea Party are $40 per person and include the performance with priority seating. Tables seat 10 guests; to ensure that you sit at the same table with friends, please purchase all tickets at the same time. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
