Wallace State Diagnostic Medical Sonography graduates 25 from program
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — More than two dozen students from the Diagnostic Sonography program at Wallace State Community College were recognized during its annual pinning ceremony, with 25 crossing the stage in the James C. Bailey Center Auditorium.
Program Director April Sutherland remarked on the selflessness of the class of 2019.
“I always like to come up with a word each year that not only encompasses the class as a whole, but each individual,” Sutherland said. “This class it was really easy, and it was selflessness.
“This class has been an unbelievable display of selflessness and that can be difficult when you have this many strong and independent individuals,” Sutherland said. “They’ve been united as a positive force.”
Clinical Coordinator Donna Attaway said she was “truly inspired” by the class of 2019. “It’s not really a class, it’s a family,” she said. “This class has been extraordinary. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a class that has supported each other like you have. Y’all have lifted each other up, comforted each other and cheered each other on. You all were literally each other’s biggest supporters.”
Sutherland reported this class marks the fifth in a row to have scored above the national average for pass rates on the physics registry.
Class president Cassandra Kyntych of Lacey’s Spring thanked the faculty and staff for the knowledge, patience and support. “You started from scratch with us hooligans and transformed us into sonographers in only four semesters,” she said. “The knowledge and confidence we gained throughout our time in the program would have never been possible without you or your patience. Thank you for investing your time in our futures.”
Awards were presented to class valedictorian Jessi Molina of New Hope and the Sonography Student Award for Clinical Excellence to Morgan Mitchell of Estill Springs, TN and Lexi Tarvin of Albertville.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Wallace State offers two associate degree options in General (Abdomen & OB/Gyn) and Cardiovascular. Both can be completed in four semesters after completing at least two semesters of general required courses.
Applications for the program are accepted from March 1 to June 1 each year, with new students starting each fall semester.
