Homebuilders Association, Housing Authority each donate $25,000 to Wallace State Future Foundation

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Wallace State Community College Future Foundation recently received two $25,000 donations that create endowed scholarships for students at the college. An endowed scholarship ensures that funds will be available for those scholarships in perpetuity.

The Cullman County Homebuilders Association donated $25,000 to create scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in the Building Construction program. Scholarship recipients will receive an annual scholarship award of up to $2,500 for tuition, fees and/or books and supplies. The first recipient of that scholarship was awarded to Edwin Quintero of Cullman.

The Cullman Housing Authority also donated $25,000 to create scholarship opportunities for residents of the Cullman Housing Authority or participants in the Section 8 program. One scholarship award of up to $2,500 will be awarded annually to a student residing in programs under the control of the Cullman Housing Authority. The first award will be presented in Fall 2020.

“The Housing Authority Board is excited to be able to offer a scholarship to our participants and the opportunity to improve the lives of those families,” said Steve Sides, Executive Director of the Cullman Housing Authority. “It’s a tribute to the entire Housing Authority staff and their conscientiousness in stretching and saving our funding dollars to enable us to be in a position to provide this endowment. ”

“We are extremely grateful for organizations such as the Cullman County Homebuilders Association and the Cullman Housing Authority for their support of Wallace State students,” said Suzanna Harbin, Director of Advancement at Wallace State. “Endowed scholarships such as these will forever help students earn certifications and degrees that will enhance and improve their lives.”

Harbin added scholarships such as these open doors to students who may have little to no hope of advancing their education.

“We see many students who think an education is out of their reach, but because of scholarships like these we can provide them with the funds that put a degree or certificate within their grasp,” Harbin said. “They can then use that to gain new jobs or advance in their current field. These scholarships bring a lot of hope into peoples’ lives.”

The Future Foundation will be taking applications for scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year from Jan. 13 through March 2. Visit www.wsccfuturefoundation.org and click on the Scholarships link for more information or contact Harbin at 256.352.8144 or suzanne.harbin@wallacestate.edu.
