Wallace State’s Small Farmer Training program hosting Young Farmer Entrepreneur Camps in June

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s Small Farmer Training program is hosting a pair of Young Farmer Entrepreneur Camps in June.

The first session is scheduled for the main Hanceville site on June 1-3, and at the Oneonta campus on June 15-17. Sessions are open to individuals ages 16 and up and registration cost is $100.

The three-day camp will cover the follow topics: soil science, fertilization, agriculture equipment usage and safety, marketing, business planning, agriculture assistance for young farmers and vegetable and fruit production basics.

“We’re reaching out to individuals as young as 16 because we want them to see how farming is a viable and rewarding career. It’s a great feeling to produce commodities that are in demand on an annual basis. Farming never goes out of style,” said Travis Kress, Wallace State’s Small Farmer Training instructor. “I encourage teenagers at career fairs to find a good summer job at a farmer’s market and begin making good contacts at a young age.”

Register for the camps at both sites by contacting Amanda Aris at 256.352.8386 or at amanda.aris@wallacestate.edu

All COVID-19 social distancing guidelines will be exercised at the camps with a max number of eight individual at each. Participants are required to bring their own masks.
