HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State-Oneonta’s campus has launched an Electronics Technology/Mechatronics program this semester and has multiple course offerings available for the Spring 2021 semester.

Applied Technology offerings in Oneonta now include Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology and Welding.

Mechatronics classes for the Spring 2021 semester include DC Fundamentals (ILT 160), AC Fundamentals (ILT 161), Solid State Fundamentals (ILT 162), Digital Fundamentals (ILT 163), Circuit Fabrication (ILT 164), Hydraulics/Pneumatics (ILT 168) and a MSCC Safety Course (ILT 170).

James McKenzie is the instructor for the Oneonta-based Mechatronics classes. He joined the college last March after previously teaching at the Ernest Pruett Center of Technology in Jackson County.

“This is an exciting time in Oneonta and Blount County, and we believe there is untapped potential in the area for this program. We have many industries in this area looking for skilled mechatronics workers and we want to fulfill those needs and build a strong program,” McKenzie said. “We want to have a presence in local high schools and help bridge that gap between high school and entering the workforce.”

Wallace State’s Electronics Technology program offers both an associate degree and certificate in Mechatronics in addition to short-term certificates in advanced electronics, basic automation and controls, and advanced automation and controls.

“Mechatronics is geared towards aligning students to be a multi-craft maintenance technician for industry. There are different doors or avenues they can take with the degree. It consists of an electronics theory with a mechanical feel,” McKenzie said.

Spring 2021 online registration is currently in Oneonta. Register for classes here: www.wallacestate.edu/register.
