This year, the concert titled “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays” will be held virtually via the Wallace State Fine and Performing Arts Facebook page on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. Along with the Singers, there will be performances by the Wallace State Jazz Band, Wallace State Concert Band and Wallace State Concert Choir

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts program will present “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays” as its annual Christmas Spectacular concert with a virtual event on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m., via its Facebook page (https://bit.ly/2JHxTpR).

“Our students spent weeks in rehearsals followed by several more weeks filming our annual holiday show,” said Ricky Burks, chair of the program and director of the Wallace State Jazz Band. “They’ve shown a great ability to adjust to changes as we’ve made efforts to decrease possible exposure to the coronavirus.”

The ensembles filmed their portions at separate times and without an audience to avoid having a large number of people gathered at one time. Three different camera angles were captured for the performance and will be edited to create the show.

“Having an audience there to interact with is one of the biggest thrills for our performers, but they adapted very well,” said Tiffany Richter, director of the Wallace State Concert Choir and Wallace State Singers. “One of the silver linings of filming the show is the students will be able to watch it with their families.”

The Christmas Spectacular will feature performances by the Wallace State Concert Band, Jazz Band, Concert Choir and Singers.

Some of the selections from the Jazz Band will include the Irving Berlin classic “White Christmas,” and the “Christmas Waltz” featuring vocalist Chloe Nutt.

The Concert Band will perform “Christmas Pipes” and “Celtic Christmas,” among other popular tunes.

The Concert Choir will present a new arrangement of “Silent Night,” “Goin’ to Bethlehem” and other holiday songs.

The Singers, backed by the Jazz Band and including a number of alumni, will sing and dance their way through a “Rockin’ Holiday Medley,” “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays” and more.

Due to licensing restrictions, the streaming cannot be recorded and saved to the Fine and Performing Arts Facebook page for later viewing.

“So please join us on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and enjoy the show from the comfort of your home,” Burks said. “You can even sing along as loud as you want.”
