Wallace State’s ‘2+2’ poultry science program receives donation from Peco Foods, Inc.
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College’s ‘2+2’ Poultry Science program recently received a check worth $7,000 from the USPOULTRY Foundation through a grant made possible by a contribution from the Tuscaloosa-based Peco Foods, Inc.
Instituted in 2013 at Wallace State, the ‘2+2’ partnership with Auburn University’s Poultry Science program allows students to complete their freshman and sophomore years of college at Wallace State and then transfer to Auburn University for their junior and senior years, culminating with a bachelor’s degree in poultry science. The poultry science courses at Wallace State are administered under the Agricultural Production/Horticulture program.
“We are very appreciative of grants like these because they allow us to raise awareness about the opportunities and potential jobs we can prepare students for,” said Wallace State’s Anthony Hilliard, the college’s Agricultural Production/Horticulture department head. “Since we first started the ‘2+2’ partnership, the number of students interested continues to grow as people become more aware of the program.”
Cullman County, where Wallace State is located, is among the top poultry-producing counties in the state.
Scholarships are available to poultry science students at Wallace State who are studying agriculture, horticulture production, poultry science or a related field.
