HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Dr. Christopher Parker, the new CEO/Executive Director of the National Junior College Athletic Association, visited Wallace State recently, meeting the college’s coaches and touring the athletics facilities on campus.
Parker joined the NJCAA in July and is making an effort to visit NJCAA member schools across the United States. During his trip to Alabama, Parker met with the presidents of each college within the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) and chose to tour Wallace State.
“The opportunity to visit some of our colleges face-to-face and meet people who are working here every day is something that benefits everyone involved, including myself,” Parker said. “I’ve known about and have heard great things about Wallace State and how outstanding the athletics programs are, and this trip verifies it. The facilities here have overly impressed me. They are tops in the nation as far as facilities for athletic programs.”
Wallace State athletics features 12 programs: volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and cheerleading.
Wallace State athletics is home to seven NJCAA national championships, multiple ACCC titles with each program, three current Major League Baseball players, one current and former PGA Tour pro, one former NFL player and four Olympic gold medalists. Wallace State athletes also make annual appearances on the NJCAA All-Academic lists.
Through an initiative led by Parker, Wallace State athletics celebrated #NJCAADay on Oct. 19 as former players shared their appreciation for the college via social media.
“The NJCAA wants to get to know our administrators and coaches better and increase the face-to-face opportunities. We are a membership-based organization, and we are here for Wallace State and all of our members,” Parker said.
