Wallace State baseball finishes ACCC Tournament runner-up; golf, tennis and softball all competing at nationals
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State baseball’s impressive season ended as the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/22 Region runner-up this week in Ozark.
The 13th-ranked Lions made a valiant march to the championship game before losing to third-ranked Chattahoochee Valley, 10-5.
Wallace State closes the season with a 48-10 record, registering one of the program’s best marks under NJCAA Hall of Fame coach Randy Putman and winning the ACCC North Division championship. The Lions went 4-2 in the tournament, reeling off three straight victories over a 24-hour span to make the title game.
Sophomores Dalton Sinquefield, Devin Brown and Heath Haskins were each named to the All-Tournament team.
As a team, Wallace State was near the top of many statistical categories during the regular season, both at the plate and on the mound.
Wallace State’s sophomores leave the program with 94 victories over a two-year span. Many sophomores have signed with four-year colleges, including Blake Rivera with Auburn University, Sinquefield with Troy University, Tanner Rusk with UAB, Kolby Robinson with Southeastern Louisiana, Jackson Tavel with Jacksonville State, Palmer Ford with UAH and Heath Olive with Faulkner University.
Other sophomores on the team, each making significant contributions this season and not previously mentioned, were Dalton Cobb, Austin Triplett, Kevin Bryant, Conner Daniel, Wallace Henry, Jordan Simpson and Zack Moon.
Wallace State baseball advanced to the postseason for the 27th time in 29 seasons under coach Putman. He now has a 1,067-473 record with the Lions.
Wallace State golf and tennis
Wallace State’s golf teams and men’s tennis are currently underway at their respective NJCAA Division I National Championships.
The men entered Wednesday in fifth place in Lubbock, Texas, while the women’s team is in 14th place in Mesa, Ariz. The women’s tournament concludes Friday, while the men wrap up on Saturday.
Wallace State’s men’s tennis team is competing in Plano, Texas.

Wallace State’s softball team begins pursuit of its third NJCAA Division I national title tonight in St. George, Utah.
The Lions play Tyler (Texas) Junior College at 8:30 p.m. Central at the Canyons Complex.
Wallace State (46-11) is making its 12th NJCAA national tournament appearance after winning its fourth consecutive ACCC/Region 22 Tournament championship last month. The Lions won the national championship in 2008 and 2013.
Wallace State has thrived this season with 15 freshmen.
