Wallace State women’s golf wins its Fall Invitational title; WSCC volleyball stays perfect in ACCC action

HANCEVILLE, ALA. — Michaela Bryan and the Wallace State women’s golf team are off to a great start this fall.
The Lady Lions captured the 2018 Wallace State Fall Invitational this week at Cross Creek Golf Course, edging Jeff State by two strokes, and Bryan won her third career low medalist title by two shots.
Bryan, a sophomore from Mississippi, carded an 83 over the opening 18 holes and shot a round-best 77 on Tuesday for a 16-over par 160 for the event. She outlasted Marion Military Institute’s Grace Farquhar. Jeff State’s Kate Wood finished third.
Wallace State, the two-time defending Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) champions, carded a 699 for the tournament (351-348). The Lady Lions trailed Jeff State by two strokes entering the final round, but rallied over the final 18 holes.
“I’m very proud of how our women hung in there and played on the second day. This was the first collegiate tournament for three of our players, so it’s a big deal. I’m happy with the results. It should be a great confidence-booster for us,” said Wallace State women’s coach J.J. Adams. “We’ve got to continue to focus on the little things and keep improving. We want to play our best when we get to the spring.”
Bryan was also the ACCC Tournament low medalist last spring for Wallace State.
Maci Yeager finished tied for sixth for Wallace State with a 175 (87-88), and Paige Lemm carded a 180 (92-88).
Abbi Grimes finished 13th overall (186) and Claire Newby carded a 193 for the Lady Lions.
Calhoun and Northeast Community College also made up the invitational field.
Wallace State’s next tournament begins Sept. 30 at Snead State.
