Wallace State students embrace opportunities available through Transfer Summit
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Abby Herring, a Wallace State Fast Track student from Good Hope, wasn’t sure what to expect before she stopped by this week’s Transfer Summit at the Bailey Center lobby.
“This is a great set-up. I love the convenience of all the colleges coming to Wallace State. It gives me a good idea of where I want to go or do next,” said Herring, a junior at Good Hope.
Herring is among Wallace State’s Fast Track students who complete high school and college coursework simultaneously, giving them the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree upon high school graduation.
Jose Daniel Corona, of Hanceville, was also pleased with the event, which is held once during the fall and spring semesters.
“All students should take advantage of this if they’re looking to transfer. I’ve had a lot of questions already answered,” Corona said.
Four-year colleges and universities on campus during the Summit were Athens State’s College of Health Sciences and College of Education, Jacksonville State, the University of Alabama, Auburn University, UAB’s College of Nursing and Department of Political Science and Public Administration, UAH’s Colleges of Engineering, Nursing and Business, West Alabama, UNA and Montevallo.
The Transfer Summit began with a quick rundown of the Pathways options available to Wallace State students and a brief overview from each university on hand. A student panel, made up of former community college students, also answered questions regarding transferring to a four-year school.
Wallace State students typically do as well or better upon transferring than students who begin at the university.
Wallace State is a member of STARS, the guaranteed statewide articulation system, which ensures seamless transferability of credit from the community college to all public colleges and universities in the state and more.
