No. 15 Wallace State volleyball begins postseason quest on Friday after 37-1 regular season

Wallace State's 15th-ranked volleyball team is seeking an 11th straight conference title this weekend.

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s 15th-ranked volleyball team constructed one the best regular seasons in program history, compiling a 37-1 record.

The Lions now have their sights on adding another conference championship to the trophy case.

Top-seeded Wallace State opens postseason play on Friday at 3 p.m. in the 2019 Gulf Atlantic District A/B/Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Tournament at Snead State Community College. The Lions will play either Gadsden State or Coastal Alabama – East.

Wallace State is seeking its 11th straight conference tournament title – all under coach Randy Daniel.

“Our strength all season has been our balance and our depth. We’ve thrived off that, and it’s kept us competitive. We’ve battled injuries and illnesses, and our depth has allowed us to plug in quality pieces to the puzzle. I’m grateful for that,” said Daniel, who has 474 career victories at Wallace State.

Wallace State has won 11 consecutive matches after its lone loss to Catawba Valley on Oct. 4.

Throughout the past 11 seasons, Wallace State has featured different styles and star players. The balance on this season’s team is hard to deny with the Lions having four players register at least 168 kills.

Freshman Diamond Jones enters the postseason with 361 kills and 136 digs. Jones leads the conference with 4.75 kills per set and is third overall in  kills, earning the ACCC Player of the Week twice this season.

Sophomore Karlee Hale’s .443 hitting percentage is tops in the ACCC, and she’s second on the Lions with 265 kills.

Amryi-Grace Paris has added 211 kills and 104 digs, while freshman Harlee Kate Reid has contributed 227 digs and 172 kills. Sophomore Kaitlyn Doyle has 168 kills and 111 digs for the Lions.

Anna Renshaw leads Wallace State with 813 assists – good for second in the conference. KaLea Davis has added 522 assists.

Lauren Seibert has racked up a team-high 438 digs and Tori Walker has pitched in with 248.

Wallace State needs to win three more matches to secure its 11th straight title. The championship match is set for Sunday at noon.

Both the champion and runner-up advance to the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Hutchinson, Kan., on Nov. 21-23.

“Our players are ready and know it’s going to be us against the gym. Everyone will want us to lose, and we expect each team to play as well as they have all season. We look forward to the challenge,” Daniel said.

Monroe College, located in the Bronx, is making the trip down from New York after winning its region and is penciled in as the third seed for the second year in a row.

Admission to the tournament is $8 per day for adults at Snead State’s Plunkett Wallace Gymnasium in Boaz. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
