Wallace State Athletics: Per ACCC policy, no spectators allowed at indoor sports through Feb. 13; updated schedules

Jiselle Woodson has been named a 2020 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Basketball All-Star by the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. She averaged 12.5 points per game last season, was first in the conference in 3-point percentage and second in assists.

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s basketball teams play their 2021 home openers at Tom Drake Coliseum on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. vs. Enterprise State.

In an abundance of caution during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alabama Community College Conference has prohibited spectators from attending indoor events through at least Saturday, Feb. 13. Therefore, Wallace State basketball home games will be live streamed at the college’s YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/user/WallaceState) and shared on the college’s main and athletics Facebook pages (links below) while fans are prohibited.

The Wallace State women’s game originally scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. vs. Florida Southwestern has been postponed.

In addition to Saturday’s doubleheader, basketball games to be streamed through Feb. 13 include Tuesday, Jan. 26 vs. Chattahoochee Valley; Tuesday, Feb. 2 vs. Shelton State; and Friday, Feb. 12 vs. Lawson State.

All NJCAA winter sports, including basketball, were pushed back to a mid-January start because of the pandemic.

With the exception of cross country, NJCAA’s fall sports were pushed to the Spring 2021 semester. Therefore, Wallace State volleyball will begin its season on Jan. 26 at Bevill State for a conference match. The first home match is Wednesday, Feb. 3 vs. Gadsden State and Lawson State. The Lions are ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll as coach Randy Daniel kicks off his 14th season with the program.

Wallace State’s 19th-ranked softball team opens the 2021 campaign on Feb. 5 at Dothan.

Wallace State’s baseball team has a tentative season opener scheduled for Feb. 10.

Men’s golf opens its season in Melbourne, Fla., on Jan. 31, while the women begin spring action on March 7.
