Wallace State’s Business Department launching new degree options in Banking & Finance and Logistics Management

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College’s Business Department is launching two new degree options during the Fall 2021 semester: Banking and Finance and Logistics Management.

Students can earn either an associate in applied science or short-term certificate in both fields.

“We’re excited to expand the program’s degree offerings. We believe the Banking and Finance option will ultimately serve our local banking industry better,” said Kathy Sides, Wallace State’s Business Department Chair and Business Education instructor. The Logistics Management pathway should prepare students to be versatile graduates within the manufacturing, distribution and trucking industries and make them among the most skilled, diverse graduates in the applicant pool. It encompasses many facets of business and industry.”

The Banking and Finance curriculum includes the following courses: Principles of Banking (BFN 100); Law and Banking: Principles (BFN 101); Law and Banking: Applications (BFN 102); Entrepreneurial Finance (ETP 266); Real Estate Finance (BFN 280); Money and Banking (BFN 205); and Principles of Management (BUS 275).

Additional business courses included in the degree option are Principles of Accounting I (BUS 241); Principles of Accounting II (BUS 242); the Legal Environment of Business (BUS 263); and Business Communications (BUS 215).

A Banking and Finance short-term certificate consists of 17 credit hours and the associate degree is 61.

The Logistics Management curriculum includes the following courses: Transportation & Distribution Logistics (LGT 101); Logistics and Regulatory Compliance (LGT 127); Introduction to Logistics (LGT 108); Warehouse Operations I (LGT 110); Warehouse Operations Applications (LGT 112); Foundational Knowledge of Supply Chain Logistics (LGT 125); Physical Distribution Systems (LGT 132); and Directed Studies in Logistics (LGT 290).

Additional business courses included in the degree option are Introduction to Business (BUS 100); Principles of Accounting (BUS 241); and Principles of Management (BUS 275).

A Logistics Management short-term certificate consists of 25 credit hours and the associate degree is 62.  

Graduates from the Logistics Management program could fulfill positions in distribution management, planning, dispatching, brokering and safety compliance, among other job duties.

“Both of these degrees will open many doors for our students,” Sides added.
