Catee Moss reception 1
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Miss Wallace State 2014 Catee Moss is at Samford University this week competing for the title of Miss Alabama 2014.
Moss, 20, is the daughter of Cristy and Paul Jeter of Hayden and Richard Moss of Andalusia. She is a paralegal student at Wallace State and plans to go into social work.
A preliminary for the Miss American Organization, the Miss Alabama program has provided college scholarships to its participants for more than nine decades. The Miss America program exists to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women to promote their voices in culture, politics and the community.
The Miss Alabama pageant will be held June 4-7 at Samford Univeristy’s Wright Center, though competition for some started as early as Tuesday, June 3. The 47 contestants are split into three groups, Mu, Alpha and Theta, and rotate to different competitions throughout the event.
Moss is in the Theta group, and will compete in the Interview portion on Wednesday morning, Swimsuit and Onstage Question on Wednesday evening, Evening Wear on Thursday and Talent on Friday. Moss will perform a dance routine for her talent.
Joining Moss in the Theta group is Miss Wallace State 2013 Rebecca Long, who won the title of Miss Covered Bridge to return to the Miss Alabama competition. Long is a student in Wallace State’s nursing program.
At a recent reception to see her off, Moss said the swimsuit event is her favorite in which to compete. Moss won the Swimsuit portion of the Miss Wallace State Pageant in February.
Each contestant also chooses a platform to support and promote. Moss’s platform is Your True You, and encourages the setting of goals and accomplishing them no matter the obstacles.
The evening events for the Miss Alabama contest are open to the public. Call the Samford Box Office at (205) 726-4168 for ticket information. The box office is open from 9:30 a.m., to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The winner of the Miss Alabama pageant will be crowned by Miss Alabama 2013 Chandler Champion and go on to compete in the Miss America 2014 competition in September in Atlantic City, N.J.
