Alumni Association plans Sedona Holiday trip; Grand Canyon on itinerary

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Wallace State Alumni Association is planning a five-day trip to Arizona, with an itinerary that includes a full day touring the Grand Canyon.
The trip is planned for Dec. 1-5, 2015, with departure from Birmingham and arrival in Phoenix before traveling by deluxe motorcoach to the Hilton Sedona Resort in Sedona, Ariz. A welcome dinner will be held that evening with fellow travelers.
The plans for Day 2, the first full day of sightseeing, includes a Sedona Trolley Tour, featuring the Chapel of the Holy Cross and Airport Mesa, which provides spectacular views of the Sedona area. Visits to Uptown Sedona and the Spanish-Mexican Village of Tlaquepaque round out the day, though an optional guided Jeep tour into the Sedona backcountry is offered. You can enjoy the evening in Sedona at your leisure.
Day 3 is dedicated to the Grand Canyon, which will be accessed by a drive through the 16-mile Oak Creek Canyon to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. You will have free time to explore and have lunch on your own before boarding the coach to see the Grand Canyon from other points of interest, including the Desert View Tower. Once out of the park, you will get the chance to visit the famous Cameron Trading Post. After a return to Sedona, you can spend the evening as you see fit.
A visit to Montezuma Castle National Monument is the first thing on the agenda for Day 4. The monument contains the ruins of a cliff dwelling built in the 12th and13th centuries by the Sinagua Indians. From there you will visit the old mining town of Jerome and the Jerome State Historic Park, also known as the Douglas Mansion, to get a flavor of what life was like when Jerome was a booming mining town. That evening, you will enjoy a farewell dinner in the Sedona area.
Before flying out on the final day of the trip, you will visit Old Town Scottsdale, where Western storefronts recreate an aura of the past.
The trip is open to the public, though Wallace State Alumni Association Members are offered a discounted rate. The cost for Alumni Association members is $1,575 per double occupancy, while the cost is $1,700 for non-Alumni members. There is a $450 additional charge for those requesting single occupancy.
The cost includes roundtrip airfare, six meals (four breakfasts and two dinners), a professional tour director, motorcoach transportation, sightseeing and admissions per itinerary, hotel transfers and baggage handling. A deposit of $300 per person is required at the time of the reservation, with the balance due 75 days prior to departure. The tour is offered through Premier World Discovery.
