Wallace State volleyball, softball teams earn NJCAA All-Academic team status

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s volleyball and softball teams were each recognized Thursday as National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic teams, a day after 10 student-athletes at the college were named NJCAA Athletes of Distinction.
Wallace State’s volleyball team compiled a cumulative 3.47 GPA. Wallace State’s softball team finished the 2014-15 academic year with a 3.46 GPA.
Both teams also won conference championships in 2014-15. Wallace State volleyball won its sixth consecutive conference title, while Wallace State softball won its ninth league title.
Wallace State volleyball is coached by Randy Daniel and softball by Jayne Clem.
A team has to achieve a 3.0 GPA to be designated as a NJCAA All-Academic Team.
Kaci Kirk, Olivia Walker and Montana Clark were among Wallace State’s volleyball players to earn NJCAA academic recognition on Wednesday, while Amanda Medders, Andrea McKenzie and Rachel Ragland did the same for softball.
The NJCAA presented 24 squads with Academic Team of the Year honors for the best GPA in the nation in their respective sports. Wallace State’s teams were among 566 programs to earn honorable mention recognition.
