Wallace State conducts initial Learning Communities event of semester with softball game

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State Community College conducted the first Learning Communities event of the semester for its students on Tuesday at the James C. Bailey baseball stadium. Wallace State’s baseball and softball teams combined to play softball against each other, along with the Wallace State Pep Band and Wallace State Cheerleaders providing entertainment.
Wallace State’s Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society had a table display at the event, and Wallace State’s Career, Success and Graduation coaches also promoted their program to students.
Wallace State Vice President Dr. Tomesa Smith threw out the ceremonial first pitch and welcomed students to the event. Duke Cleghorn sang the national anthem.
A Wallace State Learning Community or “LC” is a group of students who participate in an organized, group-learning outside of the classroom. Students in a Learning Community share common experiences centered on their academics and community, achieving a deeper understanding of their course’s subject matter and also building relationships with one another. Learning Community opportunities throughout the academic year may also include viewing a film or listening to a guest speaker.
After the Learning Community event, Wallace State’s Alumni Association hosted food trucks from Dewey’s Cajun Shack and Dale’s Stuft Potato, beginning a week full of various food trucks on campus.
Food trucks from Johnny’s BBQ and Stone Wood Fired Pizza were on campus Wednesday and Repicci’s Real Italian Gelato and Ice is scheduled for Thursday.
The Alumni Association began hosting food trucks on campus last fall, using the opportunity as a membership drive, and providing additional lunch options on campus.
