Wallace State volleyball breezes past Gadsden State in home opener, extending ACCC winning streak

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State volleyball’s home opener was a convincing effort.
Freshman Kelsea Bivins and sophomore CeCe Hall combined for 35 kills for Wallace State, lifting the Lions to a 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 victory over rival Gadsden State at Tom Drake Coliseum on Wednesday night.
After playing its first 17 matches on the road, Wallace State (15-3, 6-0 Alabama Community College Conference) rolled on its home floor and extended its conference winning streak to 20 matches dating back to last season.
“It’s always good to win against Gadsden State. They are always very competitive and a tough opponent for us. I was pleased with our energy. Our rhythm was very impressive,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel, whose team is the six-time defending conference champion.
Bivins, an outside hitter from Thompson High, finished with a team-high 18 kills and nine digs for Wallace State, while Hall added 17 kills and three blocks.
Sophomore setter Alexandra Gamble finished with 30 assists and seven kills for Wallace State, August Newberry had 15 digs, Cierra Davis contributed 14 digs, Kheala Roberts had six kills and a pair of digs and Sidney Cooper collected five digs.
Wallace State and Gadsden State flipped leads multiple times early in the first set before the Lions pulled away for a 17-11 lead.
Wallace State outscored Gadsden State 12-3 to close the second set and cruised again in the third one.
Wallace State returns to the court Friday as it hosts Jeff Davis for a 2 p.m. conference match. The Lions will also host the Wallace State Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
