Wallace State volleyball knocks off Southern Union, Lawson State at home

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s volleyball team swept a pair of conference matches against Southern Union and Lawson State at Tom Drake Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Wallace State sophomore CeCe Hall combined for 33 kills and 11 blocks two days after being named the Alabama Community College (ACCC) Player of the Week, and the Lions (21-4, 9-0 ACCC) remained perfect in conference play, defeating Southern Union 25-11, 25-8, 26-24, and following it with a 25-5, 25-20, 25-15 triumph over Lawson State.
“It’s important to get two more conference wins. We’ve got to continue to improve though,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel. “We’ve got to play with more energy and to find our identity.”
Wallace State, the six-time defending conference champion, has won 25 consecutive league matches in a row, dating back to last season.
Wallace State sophomore Kheala Roberts finished with 21 kills between the two matches, freshman Kelsea Bivins had 20 kills and six digs and Alexandra Gamble had 47 assists.
August Newberry collected 25 digs for the Lions, Sidney Cooper had 17 digs and 10 kills and Tara Miller finished with 28 assists. MaKenzie Bearden had nine kills and seven digs in the opening win against Southern Union.
Wallace State’s next match is at Wallace-Selma on Friday.
