Wallace State volleyball inches closer to another ACCC regular season title with conference sweep

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State volleyball crept closer to its eighth consecutive Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) regular season title on Wednesday night, sweeping Snead State and Wallace Community College-Selma at Tom Drake Coliseum.
Wallace State (24-4, 12-0 ACCC) prevailed 25-14, 25-11, 25-13 over Snead State in the opener and cruised to a 25-9, 25-9, 25-17 victory over Patriots in the finale, extending its conference winning streak to 26 matches.
The Lions played their first matches since Sept. 25.
“It’s been a while since we played. We were a little rusty, but we played well. We’ve got to be happy with two more wins,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel.
A week after being named the NJCAA National Player of the Week, Wallace State sophomore CeCe Hall finished the night with 22 kills combined. Kheala Roberts finished with 15 kills for the Lions, Kelsea Bivins had 14 kills and Cierra Davis added 13 digs and nine kills.
Alexandra Gamble, the team’s setter, had 31 assists in each match, and August Newberry combined for 18 digs. Against Wallace-Selma, sophomore Savanna
Tidwell, who is playing with a torn ACL, had nine digs and Tara Miller added seven assists.
Wallace State never trailed throughout the night.
Wallace State next plays in the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Invitational in West Plains, Mo., on Friday and Saturday. Wallace State is scheduled to play Hutchinson Community College, Jefferson College, Colby Community College and Missouri State University-West Plains over the two-day event.
“This weekend is really important for us. We’ve talked about how the competition will make or break us. We need to step up to the challenge and be competitive against those teams. They are all ranked ahead of us and will give us a good measuring stick to see where we stand,” Daniel said. “We have a lot of respect for these teams because we usually see them at the national tournament. It will be a good experience.”
