Wallace State softball sweeps Gadsden State, extending ACCC winning streak to 10 games

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s softball team continued its perfect run through the conference on Wednesday, sweeping Gadsden State at Bobby McCracken Stadium.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Ledbetter notched two more victories on the mound, and Wallace State (29-17, 10-0 Alabama Community College Conference) extended its winning streak to 10  games. The Lady Lions, a nine-time ACCC champion, have won 21 of their last 23 games after prevailing 8-0 in six innings and 9-1 in five innings against the Lady Cardinals.
Ledbetter, a freshman from Tuscaloosa Academy, has now won six straight decisions after striking out six batters in nine combined innings of work vs. Gadsden State. Ledbetter (16-4) tossed a one-hitter, striking out three, in the opener and pitched three innings in the second game, allowing a run on two hits. She struck out three.
In Wednesday’s opener, Wallace State broke a scoreless tie with a seven-run sixth inning.
Freshman Taylor Beshears continues to lead the ACCC in RBIs after finishing the opener with a two-run single. She has 57 RBIs in 46 games for the Lady Lions.
Karra Elam and Erin Benson each had a pair of hits for Wallace State, Julia Dailey had an RBI double, Sarah Ellen Battles had an RBI bunt single and scored twice, Leisha Yamauchi doubled, Molli Garcia singled and scored and Shelby Brown added a sacrifice fly.
Wallace State cruised again in the second game, scoring multiple runs in the opening three innings. The Lady Lions scored three runs in the first and second innings and two in the third.
Garcia, a sophomore from California, blasted a pair of two-run homers and finished with four RBIs for Wallace State. Elam went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Brown had a single and scored twice and Yamauchi, Benson and Beshears each singled and scored a run.
Jesse Butler pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Ledbetter.
Wallace State’s next conference doubleheader is Tuesday at Military Marion Institute.
