Wallace State students attend 2016 Student Leadership Institute at 4-H Center

COLUMBIANA, ALA. – Wallace State students Nicholas Parrott, Jessica Vice, Jasmine Zavala and Callie Allen represented the college this week at the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) hosted by the Alabama Community College System at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana.
The theme of this year’s event, which wrapped up Friday morning, was “Fully Charged,” allowing approximately 200 students from Alabama’s community colleges to engage and interact with each other through multiple exercises and activities.
Led by Amy Gallimore, the Creative Director and CEO of the Tennessee-based Four16 Training Solutions, the SLI group focused on sessions dedicated to stepping outside one’s comfort zone, determining personality traits, enhancing teamwork, learning about proper etiquette and pinpointing certain challenges students face on each campus, including discussions on how to better solve them.
“It’s awesome to be around people your age from other colleges and see the similarities you have with them. It’s a great networking opportunity, and it’s been nice to work as teams towards certain goals,” said Parrott, a sophomore at Wallace State. “It’s a tremendous honor to represent Wallace State. I love Wallace State, and I’m thankful to be here.”
Parrott is a West Point High graduate, Vice graduated from J.B. Pennington, Zavala is from Cleveland and Allen is from Cullman.
The annual event is sponsored by the Alabama Deans of Students Affairs Association.
Wallace State hosted the SLI event in 2014 and 2015.
