No. 19 Wallace State volleyball breezes through Ohio weekend tournament

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s 19th-ranked volleyball team dominated in the Owens Community College Invitational over the holiday weekend, winning six matches to remain undefeated on the young season.
The Lions (8-0) beat Jackson (Mich.) College, Muskegon (Mich.) Community College, Waubonsee (Ill.) Community College, McHenry County (Ill.) College, Oakland (Mich.) Community College and Macomb (Mich.) Community College in Ohio, dropping only two sets among their six matches.
Sophomore Kelsea Bivins, who was named the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Player of the Week on Tuesday, compiled 63 kills and 14 digs for Wallace State, while sophomore Cierra Davis added 56 kills and 43 digs.
Wallace State setter Abby Borden put together a memorable outing, finishing with 204 assists, 23 digs and 12 kills. The Arab graduate had 57 assists against Muskegon.
Freshman libero Emily Wilson had 87 digs during the tournament, August Newberry finished with 74 digs and Alicia Charles had 46 kills. Sophomore MaKenzie Bearden had 39 kills, Holly Posey had 32 assists and 32 digs and Kati Thomas added 28 kills.
The Lions swept Jackson College, McHenry County College, Oakland and Macomb.
Wallace State, the seven-time defending ACCC champion, travels to Snead State on Wednesday for a conference match.
